The Sanctuary Bath

The bathroom is the room you are guaranteed to enter twice a day, every day, for as long as you live in the house. And it is, in most homes, the room that has had the least thought put into it. The lighting is whatever the house came with. The towels are from a wedding registry the marriage may or may not have outlasted. The mirror is wrong, the surfaces are cold, and the entire room is designed for hygiene rather than restoration.
A proper Sanctuary Bath is a few quiet corrections — warmer light, a proper bath sheet, a soft surface underfoot, a single scent that signals the day is ending — applied to a room that already has water and steam and the privacy of a closed door working in its favour. It is the most efficient wellness intervention available to a household, because the visit is already happening. The only question is what that visit feels like.
